My Story

Hi, my name's Carly! I'm a dog! I live with my people in a tiny little town in New York. They adopted me from the SPCA on July 19th, 2013. There's Mom and Dad and Brianna. Jared and Rory live here, too, but they're not home a lot.

I came from a really bad place before. I don't remember very much about it, but it wasn't nice. I was sick and they didn't feed me enough. One day I got away. I can't remember what happened but I do remember someone got me. They put me in a cage and took me to the SPCA.

I didn't like it there. There were five pit-bulls there. One of them was across the hall from me and barked at me and jumped at the glass whenever I walked by. It was scary. I liked it when the nice volunteers took me outside and played with me, but that was the only part I liked. The food was good, but they didn't give me very much. They called me Carla.

And then one day, two people came in, a man and a woman. They stood by the door and looked at me though the window for a long time. Then the man came in. He petted me and rubbed my tummy and played with me.

"She's beautiful," I heard the woman sigh as he came out.

I was sad when they left. They were nice and I love everyone. But I was distracted when Mary the volunteer came in and took me outside to play in the big pen. I ran and played for a long time. And then I saw something. I was excited. It was the man and the woman coming back! And they had a teenage girl with them! They came into the pen and they petted me and played with me. And I hoped they would adopt me because I loved them. A little while after that they hung a sign on my door. It said "Adoption Pending".

A few days later the man and the woman came back. They took me outside and opened the back of a big van. There was a cage in the back. I didn't want to go in. I whined and tried to run away, but the man picked me up and put me in it. Then he gave me a treat. They drove a little ways. And then they took me back out at their house.

The reason this blog is called "The Eleven Dollar Dog" is because I cost exactly eleven dollars. The adoption fee was waived for the weekend my people brought me home. All they had to pay for was my license. Of course, that was before they spent all that money on toys and food and vet bills and...

And that's how I joined the family. I've never looked back since, because I'm the luckiest dog on the planet and I have the very best life of all the canines ever.
